Can i get a job with a simple assault charge?

Obviously, the answer will depend upon the status of her case as well as the type of employment that your "client" is seeking.

Many employers have a legitimate need to know if the prospective employee has been convicted of a crime. Others seek to know if the prospective employee has pending charges.

Do misdemeanors stop you from getting a job?

To apply, you must wait 3 years (misdemeanor) and 5 years (felony) from the disposition date.

A provisional pardon does not erase your criminal record, but it might make it easier to get a job.

A provisional pardon makes it illegal for an employer to refuse to hire you just because of your record.

Do Mcdonald's hire felons?

As a convicted felon you know how hard it can be to find a job, any job.

Our organization,Help For Felons is dedicated to helping all felons with employment and other issues.
There is a lot of misinformation on the internet pertaining to felons and jobs, including if Mcdonalds will hire felons.

How long does it take for a felony to be off your record?

When someone is convicted of a felony, the crime is deemed serious enough (and the trial thorough enough) that all felonies stay on your record permanently.

This means landlords, employers, banks, and law enforcement can see any felony you've ever been convicted of.

Which state hire the most felons?

In the past five years,
California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Minnesota and Rhode Island and the District of Columbia have banned the box for most state jobs.

Hawaii was the first state to ban the box in 1998.

How long does it take for a felony to go away?

The waiting period may differ depending on the severity of your crime.

For example, Massachusetts requires you to wait ten years before applying to have a felony record sealed, compared to five years for a misdemeanor conviction.

Do pending charges show up on a background check?

Yes, pending charges will show up on background checks.

The only reason they wouldn't is if a state has a law that only shows certain types of pending charges.

However, it is legal to deny someone a job because of a criminal history where the crime was recent, serious, and relevant to the job.

Do Walmart hire people with felonies?

Help For Felons has found that most retail companies including Walmart will not hire sex offenders or felonies that are considered violent.

Theft and/or forgery convictions may also reject you from being employed by Walmart and most other retailers

101 Jobs and Companies that Hire Felons

Many felons ask us the question “Are there any jobs that hire felons?

Yes! There are jobs that hire felons.
The very first thing you need to understand is that most minimum wage jobs will not hire felons.

We believe that this is because you will most likely have direct contact with the customer. This can be too much of a risk for those companies, however the higher paying jobs usually do not mind ($10-$30 per hour). This is because most jobs that are between $10-$30 per hour are most likely at factories. These jobs take advantage of the tax break they receive from hiring a felon.

Most of the time these jobs are simple to get. Just keep putting in the effort. If you have a higher education you will be more likely to land a job despite your felonies.
Mostly because those with an education have a broader range of skill sets. This is because there are less people able to do the work that you can do.

Will all this information you should understand that most minimum wage jobs will not hire you, but for everyone of those there is an opportunity just waiting for you. If you can’t get a job then try college.

Many offenders that we know are taking engineering classes. Within a year they are working in a factory making around $15 an hour. We have seen this time and time again.

From visitors shares:

If you are a professional with a felony there is almost NO employers that will hire you unless the conviction is older than 7 years. You have to be able to pass a background check & most go back 7 years. I know that Home Depot will not hire people with all felonies. My husband was offered a job there but then had it rescinded because of his felony background. This was for a professional white collar job. His felony is only a year old so it shows up on his background check. If you have a skill or manual labor then it might be easier to find someone willing to look at you as a person. Big companies with large HR departments just discard people with less than squeaky clean backgrounds. It isn’t illegal unless you’re a protected class. I have been told that Starbucks & Publix grocery stores hire felons.

I was hired at home depot and only been out of prison for four days. Five felony charges. I guess its a case by case basis. No one will touch a felon that was convicted of sex crime or crime against a child.

I have a felony that is 32 years old. Cannot get an expungement or pardon. Every company I have applied for I get rejected. NO company wants their reputation and image tarnished over hiring a felon. The system wants you homeless, broke, starve and live with your parents. I have for 32 years. I am a very old felon and still the system won’t change. My felony was non violent and not involving children. Best of luck to you. Take care.

I am an ex felon and ive been working since i got out of prison in 2000. Ive been in housekeeping since. I started as a regulr employee and worked my way up to being a supervizsor. The pay is ok but i know im worrth more than what my company pays me. I work hard and i enjoy hands on as a team player. Im looking for a better opportunity be cause i like any other citizen wants a better life. Im proud of who i am today .

The law was pass that there will be a non discrimination applied to all jobs and careers but yet it is another one of the biggest lies in the employment field. I am a felon do to me having a theft charge in 2013 it comes up immediately after the background check and I have applied for a county job at the hospital went through the hiring process got hired and than for their HR department to rescind my offer I have been so upset no way to turn and being a single mother without a second chance at life is suicidal
Crying out loud for someone’s help

I was found guilty before, my case went to court. Even though it said pending charges it show up, I was offered 5 position, but have the background check and the pending charges each one of them as rescind their offer to me. My charges has nothing to do with my professional life only my personal and I am in the process of make sure this person never comes into my life again, I feel you when you say without a second chance at life is suicidal, each day I just trying to encourage myself by saying I know someone will hire me for a great job.

Kroger does not hire felons. They will hire you initially, but they will terminate you after your background check is complete with GSI …. approx. 2-3 weeks. They are not felon friendly. You might be able to pass the background check if your court documents have not been filed yet, but other than that they will terminate you within a couple of weeks of hiring you if your background check does not come up okay according to them.

10 Tow Truck Driving Jobs for Felons with Tips from Experts

When looking for a job with a felony, one of the most commonly suggested options is to get a truck driving job. However, there is a similar job opportunity with its own set of perks that is not often considered: driving a towing truck.

Here are the pros and cons of pursuing this job, as well as certifications and other requirements you may need to meet get hired.

Pros of Becoming a Tow Truck Driver with a Felony

1. Ample jobs available: towing truck companies are very busy, and are always looking for new drivers. This is especially true in large cities, where there are many towing truck companies, and no shortage of cars being towed day and night.

2. The job requires ability to deal with stress and conflict: given your experience in jail, you may be perfectly qualified to deal with the negative emotions and conflict that often arise when you are towing someone’s car. Employers are looking for candidates who will not be afraid or back down from an angry driver whose car is being towed, but who can also handle themselves, be polite, and will not escalate the situation.

If you feel that you have the personality to handle this kind of stress, you can use your experience in jail as a positive and describe the ways in which your experience will actually help you be better at this job than any other candidate.

3. Commissions: this is one of the BIGGEST perks of being a tow truck driver. Many towing truck drivers get up to 40% bonuses to their salaries in commissions. This varies greatly depending on the employer, so you should inquire about commissions during your interview. In general, you get paid based on the number of cars you bring in. Some night drivers can earn as much as $700/night depending on the area they are working in.

4. Potential for High Pay: while the average salary of a tow truck driver is about $25K or $12.80/hr, there is also room for growth. Once you get more experience, you can work for companies such as AAA, which pay an average of $28-33K. Other companies, such as large auto mechanic shops may pay as much as $55K. Tow truck drivers can have particularly high salaries if they are trained in disaster relief.

5. Excitement/Adrenalin Rush: while about 90% of the job will be very boring and routine, and there will be a lot of waiting for a call to come in, there is also another 10% of extreme, unusual situations. These may include major car accident scenes, crime scenes, high speed high way calls, towing some very rare, expensive cars, etc.

6. No Prior Experience Required: you will be trained on the job.

7. No Long, Expensive Training or Education Required: all you will need is a Class A CDL drivers license.

8. More Freedom Than Other Jobs: as a tow truck driver you will enjoy a lot more freedom to move around and be on your own, compared to jobs in retail, office or factory.

What Does a Tow Truck Driver Do?

In general, a tow truck driver is asked to move cars or larger vehicles from one location to another. Beyond this basic description, the job can vary greatly. If you work for a police department, you may be asked to remove illegally parked or abandoned vehicles. If you work for an auto mechanic company or a road side company, you may be asked to assist someone with a disabled vehicle and transport them to a repair shop. Private companies, government agencies and condominiums may contract with a towing company to enforce parking laws.

Where Can You Get a Job?

As a tow truck driver you have money options for employment. You can work for government agencies (including police), dealerships, financial companies (repossess cars), auto mechanic shops, AAA and other road side assistance companies, etc. You can also work for a small private towing truck company that will have contracts with different businesses, and you will be asked to tow cars for these businesses. Typically, auto-mechanic shops offer the best pay.

Its important to be aware that different companies offer different payment structures: some pay you a salary only, others offer only hourly pay, others still are only commission based.

Commission jobs typically have high stress and stiff competition from other tow truck drivers, but offer great money making opportunities, if you can hassle. Hourly pay jobs will expect you to work very long hours in order to make more money. Salary jobs are the least stressful, but also do not give you a way to make any extra money.

Some companies offer a combination of hourly pay and commission. These are the best jobs, because you have the security of a steady pay check and can also make extra cash if you work extra hard.

What Training Will You Need?

To get a job as a tow truck driver, you will need a Class A CDL driving license. This license allows you to handle and transport loads greater than 10 tons. If you consider a regular truck driving job, you will need the same license (albeit maybe a different class).

You can also go through the only nationally recognized certification course for tow truck drivers: Towing and Recovery Association of America’s (TRAA) Driver Certification Program. However, because there is such high demand for tow truck drivers this is not necessary to get a job.

Barriers to Entry If You Have a Felony

In some states, if you are applying for a CDL license with a felony, your application may be turned down if you have a conviction for assault (other crimes against people), theft, possession, or interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle. Other convictions that will prevent you from obtaining this license are: vehicular manslaughter, trafficking or distribution of controlled substances, materials, or weapons, bribery, extortion, arson, treason, kidnapping.

Make sure to find out what the laws in your area are.

Some tow truck companies may not hire someone with a felony if they will need you to handle cash and will decide that you are not trustworthy to do that.

Cons to Working as Tow Truck Driver

1. Long Hours: many companies will require you to work longer than 8 hours, up to 12 hours is standard.

2. Very Tough Schedule: as a tow truck driver you will be on call 24/7, and will need to arrive on site at any time of day. Often, you will be asked to work on weekends, at night, or very early in the morning. This may be a tough job if you have time constraints, family obligations, etc.

3. No Overtime Pay: while this varies depending on the employer, tow truck companies have a bad rep for not providing overtime pay to their drivers.

4. High Stress being a tow truck driver can be very stressful. First, you will often be dealing with very angry vehicle owners, who may threaten you and try to get into a physical fight. While you may know how to handle yourself, you just may want to avoid being involved in these kinds of situations. You may also be asked to tow cars from crime and accident scenes, where you will see blood, dead or severely injured people.

5. Potential to Be Injured:as mentioned earlier, vehicle owners get get very angry a tow truck drivers trying to take their car and may physically hurt them. Experiences tow truck drivers report incidents where they were shot at, hit, punched in the face and lost teeth, slashed with a knife. While cases of such violence are rare, you need to be aware that this is a real risk that comes as part of this job.

6. Stiff Competition From Other Tow Truck Drivers:often tow truck drivers who patrol a specific area, like an apartment complex, have to compete with each other,as each is trying to tow as many cars as they can. This can also end up being a conflict, high stress situation.

Does UPS Hire Felons?

You wanted to know, does UPS hire felons?

Everyday we get tons of inquiries with the subject in the email. does UPS hire felons? Well instead of responding to all of our loyal fans one by one we have decided that we need to write a post about this topic.

UPS has hired felons recently. Around 6 months ago was the most recent time someone has sent us in a story about being hired at UPS. This is their story.

“Well I ended up applying for a UPS position over the internet. I have a grand theft felony so I thought this would hurt me, but it did not. I was given a very labor intensive position. This part time position was what I needed and after a year I will have full time benefits. The environment is great and is very conducive to personal growth. They know all about my felony so this will never be an issue in the future. I am pretty happy about all of this. I hope this helps someone.”

In the past we have also received a few other accounts of felons who have been hired at UPS. So the answer your question “does UPS hire felons” is yes. It is true that UPS does hire felons.

From Subscribers Stories

I also applied as a independent driver at UPS Freight and was told after completing the 6 hrs orientation test online and passing my drug screen that they could not hire be because of a non violent felony convection from over 30 years ago. They even sent be the contract agreement to sign but called at the last minute and told me that I could not be hired. I passed up a really good job offer because they had said that every thing was fine.

I just filled out an app for usp and they turned me down to my background. I am a convicted felon and UPS would not hire me due to my background, because I have 2 Armed Robbery charges from 2011 and I was also upfront that I have a background and I am also in a halfway house. But a few days ago I got a letter in the mail saying I can go up for an dispute based off of my background, but I am not to sure on what I should do because its like everybody turns me down based off of my background but I was able to land a job at Macys, its not the best but its a job for the time being.

I have a felony from 2000, i just put it down but i think it’s considered a violent one due to breaking a restraining order and such. Of course I broke it by writing a letter but nerveless broke it, there is nothing else on my record from 2000 to 2015 so im hoping hoping ups hires me

I have two separate robbery convictions, strong-armed robbery in 2005(SC), and common law robbery 2012(NC). I interviewed 11 days ago and was upfront and honest with the HR lady about my past and they just called yesterday and offered me a job. She said they evaluate felony convictions on a case by case basis.

Well I thought I got hired worked for 2 weeks and then was notified I didn’t pass background check I was up front about my history I have an accessory charge that is 3 years old and took a deal earlier this year for 2 felony counts of child endangerment to top it off they haven’t paid me for the 2 weeks I did work.

50 Trucking Companies That Hire Felons with Convictions 5, 7, 10 years

There Are Many Trucking Companies That Hire Felons

One of the biggest go to jobs for felons is Trucking. It is something that most felons can do as long as sufficient time has passed since your conviction date. If you are a felon who has spent quite a few years behind bars you may be in luck. Most of these companies will not ask how long you have been out of prison for, however you will have to explain your lack of employment.

Applying For A Job

Trucking companies are required to do a background check on all applicants. This background check will go deep into your past and will pull up your driving record. Do not try to hide anything, this can disqualify you for the position. Just make sure you are as honest as possible. If you have any felony traffic violations or drug trafficking violations you may be disqualified.

Tow Truck Driver Jobs – Many towing companies are small owner-operated outfits, and do not perform background checks. In fact, they would prefer someone with “experience” in dealing with unpleasant situations. You do need a CDL class A to drive a tow truck.
Lyft Jobs for Felons – can felons get ride-sharing jobs at Lyft (and possibly Uber) … Hint – yes with limitations!

Getting CDL License

While many truck companies provide on the job training, it’s recommended to have a CDL license when you apply. Having a license makes you much more valuable to the company, especially in light of you felony conviction.

Since there is a serious shortage of truck drivers in US, you can still find work, even without CDL, but will be paid less. So – if you can, go get a Truck Driver’s training from an approved school in your state, and start applying for CDL.

Here are two courses on how to become a trucker (Getting CDL, Finding Jobs, Choosing the Right company to work for, Trucker-Family advice, etc)
Trucking Success 101 – taught by Hervy Christmas, a Truck Driver of 13 years and Career / Life Coach.
Jump Start Trucking – taught by James Davis, who drove trucks over 1,000,000 without single preventable accident!

How Much Trucking Jobs Pay

Truck driving jobs pay different depending on you CDL license class, experience, type of driving you do and cargo that you carry, company you work for and where you live (local trucking jobs).

There are basically two types of pay structures – Local and OTR (over the road):
OTR means long hauls, cross many states .. you get the picture – you go on the trip for 2-3 weeks at a time.
Local is self explanatory – you come home every night. Good example of local trucking jobs is driving for UPS or FedEx

OTR jobs pay per mile – anywhere from $0.40 to $0.60 … sometimes a little less – sometimes a little more. Average around $0.45-0.50 per mile. Most OTR trucker put in 2500 mile per week – do the math. This is if you work for a company, and not a s owner-operator or OO (meaning you have your own truck). Owner-Operator truckers make a lot more per mile, but often EARN LESS, after all the costs (fuel, maintenance, insurance/bonding, other overheads).

Local jobs pay per hour – typical hourly rates in US are between $12 and $29 per hour. Huge difference there, but the average is around $19/hr (50th percentile so to say).

As a felon without experience, you can start at around $12-14/hr locally or $0.38-0.40 per mile OTR.

Here is more info on local and OTR pay for truckers.

Additional information:

Lets pretend for a moment, its the week before you got caught for whatever it was you did wrong. Suppose you had filled out an application for a job and was asked on the application if you had ever been convicted of a felony, and you honestly answered that as truthfully NO ! Such an answer would have been 100% honest, because indeed, at that point in time, when the question was asked, had not been caught, or convicted of a felony. Even though felonious activity had occurred by you, your application would have appeared as clean as fresh snow…Innocent of conviction. “Innocence of conviction” is not the same as innocent of wrong doing. But on an application, it flies. Employers are oh so quick to misjudge and mislead themselves to believing that a persons character based on LACK of conviction some how makes that person more trustworthy than an ex-con , when indeed most times it doesn’t. An employer will lend a never convicted person a “Benefit of Clearance”, when indeed they could very well be sitting in the presence of a non-caught-non-convicted, ax-murderer, and not have any inkling of it, because after all, “they have a clean record”! At least as employers are concerned, an ex-felon knows…the employer knows… their background… and the felon knows they will be the first suspected in any fowl play regardless of who’s involved (even “without evidence”- connecting them ) so the felon from the get-go holds himself to a higher more transparent-standard of behavior than that of his peers because one aspect, “MIGHT,…just might,… be the one thing that saves him from suspicion when things get ugly. He knows how easy its going to be to blame him, even if he’s innocent. So the felon is more likely to do everything exactly by the book because he knows that end the end, that’s what will save him. Where as the ax-murder realizes he’s fling under the radar of suspicion and hence can get away with murder because he has a clean record ( so far ) after all.

There are a lot of opportunities for people who have felonies especially if they are more than 5 years old another key piece of information that may help with getting a driving job in smaller companies is that the federal government gives tax breaks to companies who hire a person with a conviction in the last 10 years so it might help if you let employers know this ( any industry. Manufacturing, clerical, construction ect.) another thing is never give up you will eventually find the right job as long as you put forth your absolute best effort. I have a felony from 7 years ago and I understand first hand how discouraging and hard it can be to find the best fit for you. You may even go through a couple jobs before finding the best one. I work for a small manufacturing company in southern ohio who decided to give me a chance 3 years ago and it payed off. They payed for my CDL and I got promoted to supervisor a year ago. with that being said when the opportunity does present itself work and try your absolute hardest and know that small efforts only get you small results and being honest upfront and remorseful for your actions in the past shows employers that they can possibly help you on your road to success because that’s the way I look at the people I interview who have convictions

I have to see first hand the battle my better half deals with when trying to get a trucking job. Let me give you a little background, he’s prior military and was wounded in war. He ended up beating the shit out of a guy who hit a woman in front of him and let’s just say, he went to prison and a felony. This is just shy of 7 years old now and gets doors shut on him all the time. He’s stronger, more capable and has more honesty and integrity than any man I’ve ever known. He’s busted his ass to survive in life and I’m fed up with it being nothing but small companies that will hire him and since they are on paper logs, the drivers end up playing with their books just to make delivery, backhaul or picking up the next load. Just because a felony is over 10 years, which is the policy for many major companies that actually have to abide by DOT rules and regulations, doesn’t mean those individuals are better or more rehabilitated. Some convictions aren’t forgivable, but for the most part, I’d rather have felons working for me then the average Joe. This is simply because felons work harder than most as they always have to show they’re worthy or better than a damn conviction. This shouldn’t have to dictate who someone is or their level of integrity and commitment nor should they have to bare discrimination or be branded with a Scarlett letter so to speak. Felony or not, you deserve the same opportunity to get excellent pay and benefits too! This has to change…. companies are missing out on dedicated, hard working individuals just because of a label.

From what I have researched, any violent crime will restrict any chance of finding work anywhere. I believe that it isn’t impossible to find work, you just may not find your dream job. I have a felony conviction going on 15 years. I went back to school and earned an associates degree. Worked for three years, then took another job. They did a background check on me and rescinded their offer. This happened three times with three different employers within a 4 week period. Looking into trucking because I used to drive years ago but after reading these posts, doesn’t look too promising.

Does Lyft Hire Felons? – Ride Sharing Jobs Companies

Lyft can be a great source of income , but do they hire felons? Here we analyze the Requirements to Become a Lyft Driver. Some Lyft make upward of $1000-2000/wk, with average driver pulling in about $1.3K or $20-25/hr, so this would be a perfect opportunity for felons – but can you get this job with your conviction?

Hint: You CAN, so read on!
Let us know in comments below, if you were able to get a Lyft / Uber job with a felony conviction.

Ride sharing is a very competitive business, and Lyft, along with its main competitor UBER are very aggressive at recruiting new drivers, offering sign-up bonuses as much as $1000 after you drive for 1 month. These companies NEED more drivers, especially in new markets.

However with massive pushback from riders – complaints of robber, sexual assault and even murders, Lyft and UBER are under pressure and scrutiny to improve background check on their drivers. And while they say that they are very strict – reality is, MANY folks who should not drive for Lyft and Uber, do so, and very “successfully”.

Lyft’s official Policy / Requirements to Become a Driver

Here is the official stance on criminal records and background checks for new drivers:

Every driver is screened for criminal offenses and driving incidents. Lyft’s criminal background check is provided by a third-party and includes national and county-level databases, and when necessary, local courthouse record checks. You will be ineligible to drive on the Lyft platform if, among other things, the background check results reveal convictions for any of the following in the past seven years:
A violent crime
A felony
A drug-related offense
A sexual offense
Certain theft or property damage offenses

So as you can see – if you had a felony conviction (or others listed above) in the last 7 years, you will most likely fail background check and won’t get the job. However – if your felony is OLDER than 7 years, you should have no problem being approved by Lyft, and can start driving and earning pretty good money.

What Felons should do once approved by Lyft?

Ok – this is a huge topic, and falls outside the scope of this guide, so I will only cover the basics here, and discuss details in separate guide.

First of all, you need to always keep in mind that it is VERY easy to lose the privilege to drive for Lyft (or Uber) and if you lose it – that’s, no going back. So follow the below tips 100%, and most likely you will not get “deactivated”. I have several friends who were Lyft / Uber drivers but for stupid mistakes were deactivated and cannot get back in ever!

Once you are approved to drive for Lyft, you need a CAR – a decent car, or at the very least “newer” and very clean! Some will say “duh!” but trust me on this one.
Your car must be in very clean/pristine condition: No rust, smoke, falling tail pipes, broken windows, or trash inside. No ripped trim either! If you get several complains for the quality of your car, you will be banned!

Basically you don’t need to have a brand new or even a 2-years old car, but definitely not a clunker. Also Lyft has an approved list of cars that you can drive. In most cities your car must be no older than 2004… in some cities 2006 or newer.

Check out a full list of Lyft approved cars here.

Be extra polite with riders: If you get several bad reviews, and your rating falls (there is no hard number, but 4.5 out of 5 stars is bad), you will be banned.
Many drivers now days offer free water bottles to riders, and vacuum their cars every 5-10 rides!!!
Get a Dash Camera!!! Most Lyft drivers now have dash-cams, to protect themselves from frivolous/meritless accusations or in case of an accident, to have hard proof. Felons need a dash-cam much more so than regular drivers, because if you get wrongly accused, you will be “guilty by default” without video evidence. Definitely stay away from cams under $100 … This video footage may be a deciding factor in your life, so spend $200-300 on a great cam to be sure that you have the evidence when/if you need!

You need a dash cam that films in front of your car as well as inside (with secondary rear view camera) the car. Don’t buy cheap cams – they are garbage, and often will not make a recording, that you need (even if they appear to be working). I made a mistake of getting cheap dashcam, and when I needed it, there were no videos, while camera was rolling

You need smart phone to install Lyft app, so you can drive customers. Everything in Lyft happens through app, so I recommend a decent Android phone or an iPhone 5s or newer. Your phone will also be your navigation!

Along with phone you will need decent car-mount to place the phone. Here I recommend a magnetic car mount like Schoshe, which makes it very easy to take phone off and put it beck onto mount with one hand, in less than 1/2 second! Don’t get operated mounts as they are a driving hazard.

As for the phone itself, it’s very personal, and depends on you provider (AT&T / Sprint / T-Mobile / Verizon / Prepaid). With Sprint / Verizon, you pretty much can only use carrier phones (no unlocked options). For AT&T / T-Mobile, I recommend unlocked phone, like Blu Life One X2 or Blu R1HD or Sony XA or Unlocked iPhone 5s or newer.

Unlocked phone gives you freedom to change carriers, and you won’t get stuck in 2 year contract.

How to behave with passengers?

Never Ask for Tips! While Lyft allows tipping, you should never ask for tips. 1st – most people will leave tips through app. 2nd if they did not leave tip – that is fine – many people are just cheap. However if you ask for tip or complain, you WILL get bad review. Once again – just a handful of bad reviews and you are off the job forever!
Don’t tell them that you are a Felon! Ok, so I am for transparency, but if you want to make someone very scared of you – tell them you have a conviction, while you drive them … J/K … never do that.
NO ROAD RAGE / AGGRESSIVE Driving If you drive aggressively, you will most likely be fired the first day! Lyft is very strict about safety, and 1-2 complains about dangerous driving is enough to get you deactivated! There is no going back, once you are out.

Don’t make awkward conversations with riders. Many people don’t like talking with strangers – just drive them and that’s it… unless you get a talkative type. Then just keep the conversation going without being too personal
Be on time Many people are in a hurry, and use ridesharing for fast inexpensive transportation. Don’t come 15 minutes late for your pickup. If you want to eat lunch – turn off Lyft app.
Don’t Smoke in the car Riders often think of themselves as hip and cool, and today smoking is NOT considered cool. So definitely don’t smoke in the car with the rider in it, but also don’t smoke in the car when alone. I do smoke but I hate smell of cigarettes. So when I need to, I just pull over, and get out.

Here is a good “training video” for Lyft:

Once you are setup and ready to start Ride Sharing Jobs

Ok, assuming you have everything ready, and are approved by Lyft – you first drive should be during off-peak day hours… like between 11am and 3pm. Pickup and drive a few clients, and be EXTRA nice and polite. Ask your riders how their day goes, offer water, etc.

Mention that you are new on Lyft / that this is your first day, and ask – would they care to give you some tips (as in ADVICE). This will open up the conversation and make time go by fast, as well as make your passenger have positive emotions about you – increasing chance of good tips and good review.

Additionally, in the beginning, you should also have your friends ride with you (through app) and give you initial positive ratings.

Ok – this should about cover it for now – if you want more advice – hit some Lyft / Uber forums – it’s a good place to start.

Come back for my in-depth guide on ride sharing jobs for felons, driving for Lyft and Uber. Also soon I will publish my full Uber guide.

If you do not qualify (felonies that are less than 7 years old), you should still try to apply, unless 7 years is coming up soon. Also check out our trucking jobs for felons guide, as truck companies can be much more lenient with felons
